Ollie was turning seven. His classroom was a mess.
The district had a difficult time hiring teachers. Finally they found two different substitutes with no experience in autism.
Ollie's mom was furious. The teachers meant well but they had no idea what they were doing.
"One day they are trying to teach Ollie second grade math. The next day, they are letting him watch videos all day."
Waste of time.
Ollie loves school. There are no demands. He can do what he wants. He started eating with his hands again.
His parents can't hire private therapists to help with a behavioral program at home.
I suggested old fashioned parenting.
Ollie loves the computer. He has a small DVD player that he carries around. He will have to work for the DVD player. He will have to complete his chores before he can use the computer.
I told his mom that at home, they needed to keep Ollie on track. He could learn what other kids have to figure out every day.
School may be a waste of time.
But mom and dad mean business.
