Drishya is 2 months old now and she is getting good at visual focus and social interactions & responses. Kavitha & I amuse her frequently with some play which aids such development. For example we wave a small piece of colored cloth or hanky when she is lying down and her eyes diligently follow the path of the hanky left, right, up, down. She seems to be much better at recognizing faces now. I am always greeted with a smile when I get back home from work. Initially I thought it was a coincidence that she smiled at me, but when it happenned many times in a row, I knew that she knew. She has started making those cooing and gurgling noises in response to our numerous mock questions, that is so much fun to watch and listen to. It almost makes us wonder if she is speaking an alien language.
One other thing we tried recently was to play mini hide & seek with her. The plan was that the two of us position ourselves close to her where she can see us. One of us talks to her and the other gets out of sight (hides basically). We wanted to see if she looks out for the person missing briefly. So there I was talking to her and Kavitha got out of sight stealthily. Amidst Drishya's cooing I said to her, "Baby, where did mummy go? Find her.. look where she is... search for her". "Search, search", I emphasized, as she didn't look around as she normally does. And to my astonishment, ... her cooing suddenly made sense, as she uttered a more familiar word (entity rather) that has become part and parcel of our lives , "Google, google".
Search, search -- google, google!! Get it ? Both of us burst out laughing when we wondered how Google - not just being a company but also being a verb, a noun, a gerund (almost all parts of speech) had also entered our daughter's diction. Well I guess it's in the blood ! :-)
